2 Raiders staying for NHL main camps; could be more

Sep 20, 2016 | 12:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders may be without their leading scorer and starting goaltender for the team’s regular season opener this weekend.

Reid Gardiner is heading to main camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Rylan Parenteau is suiting up with the Vancouver Canucks in their training camp.

This is Gardiner’s third look by NHL teams in the preseason, after previously camping with the Canucks and the Minnesota Wild. Parenteau’s Canucks camp is his first at the NHL level.

The jury is still out on defenceman Brendan Guhle, who didn’t return from the Buffalo Sabres’ camp last year until Oct. 13. That delay was caused by both his impressive camp and needing to nurse an upper body injury.
