UPDATE: Early morning plane crash puts two in hospital

Aug 31, 2016 | 10:08 AM

UPDATE: According to those at the scene of the crash, a float plane – a small, recreational craft – lost oil-pressure shortly after taking off from a nearby lake. The two occupants attempted to turn back to the lake after entering a flat spin, but failed and crashed to the ground.

The injured pilot is known to locals who say he has been flying for 40 years and he just purchased his plane this past spring. Post-crash, locals near Township Rd. said the man and his son walked out of the downed plane to tell onlookers what happened.

The locals believe the pilot has broken ribs, while his son injured his leg. The extent of those injuries, however, is unknown.

RCMP have not confirmed details of the crash.

A single engine plane crash 20 km northwest of Shellbrook has left two men injured, one seriously.

At roughly 8:15 a.m. this morning, Parkland Ambulance Paramedics cared for a 69-year-old male and a 40-year-old male at the scene of the crash. The older male was taken by ambulance to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon in serious condition, along with his younger counterpart who is in stable condition.

No other details of the incident were available at this time.
