P.A. apartment building evacuated

Aug 29, 2016 | 10:46 PM

The smell of “burnt rubber” filled  Hilltop Towers Monday night.

Shortly after 9:50p.m residents were told to leave the building, some grabbing their pets as they went out the door.

Some senior residents were told they could stay in the lobby area while the fire department investigated.

There was no sign of smoke from the outside of the building, but the fire department informed paNOW there was a small fire in the basement.

Residents were overheard being told some “belts” were burning in the mechanical rooom.

After standing outside for roughly 20 minutes, the residents were told the coast was clear and they could re-enter.

In addition to the fire department, members of the Prince Albert Police Service and Parkland Ambulance were also on scene helping to control traffic and reassure residents.
