Raiders record a profitable last season

Aug 23, 2016 | 10:39 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders are in the black as the club recently reported a profitable year.

The club finished the 2015-16 season with an operating surplus of $3,892.

This is in start contrast to the previous year when the team was in the red $61,365.

Raiders Business Manager Mike Scissons was happy to be back in the black.

“It’s a small number, but it’s a proper number and it’s one we can build on,” he said.

Scissons said attendance was a bit down at the beginning of the season but fans spent more last season on promotions and special events such as the annual Raiders golf tournament.

Team president Dale McFee said it was a good year for the team. He credited the club’s continuity, such as the coaching staff as part of its success.

“We seem like we’re on the right path and we just need to make sure that we’re diligent, consistent and, most of all, we have to show our appreciation for the support that the fans have given us,” McFee said. “That support is really what makes this hockey club. I think the reason that we’re doing better is in large part based on that support.”

Raiders’ training camp opens Thursday evening when the rookies take to the ice for the first time. The main camp opens on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders’ first home exhibition game is Thursday, Sept. 8 when they host the Saskatoon Blades. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
