Water not as easy to find as originally suggested

Jul 26, 2016 | 11:58 AM

After Prince Albert Rural Water Utility users’ taps were shut off Sunday, they were told to look to neighbouring communities to fill their water needs.

The towns of MacDowall, Birch Hills, and Shellbrook have all been dealing with their own water woes and may or not be in a position to help out.

Residents in MacDowall are in the same situation as their neighbours to the north.

The hamlet uses city of P.A. water, and their taps have also been shut off.

Residents in Birch Hills have running water but they are currently under a boil advisory.

The precautionary order was issued Monday due to elevated turbidity in the system and will be in effect until further notice.

Kelly Hoare, with the town of Shellbrook, said as long as their plant keeps up with demand they will be able to provide out of towners with water but admits times are tight.

“Right now we’re just monitoring it closely because we have to make sure we have enough to supply our local folks here. From there, I’ll keep in contact with the city of Prince Albert and let them know if all of sudden we’re not producing enough to keep helping,” she said.

Hoare said, so far, no limit has been set as to how much water people can haul, but this to subject to change.
