Jul 19, 2016 | 1:08 PM

Nestled in the Highway 3 business park is one of Prince Albert’s best-kept secrets. Few know that one of Saskatchewan’s fastest growing Occupational Health Service Provider‘s is based in Prince Albert.

Since 2008, Innovative Training Solutions (ITS) has provided a variety of occupational health services throughout the province. ITS maintains administration headquarters in Prince Albert and has recently expanded to larger location to #9 4260 5 Ave. E in Prince Albert.

At their previous location ITS offered drug and alcohol testing, consulting and training. At their new more spacious location their services have expanded and now include spirometry testing, auditory screening and mask fitting, as well as nurse practitioner medicals.

“The addition of all of these services assists ITS in achieving our goal of providing a comprehensive service locally in Prince Albert,” ITS owner Troy Hufnagel states. Until recently customers in Prince Albert would have to visit numerous agencies to complete their site-required testing. Now in one stop all of these services can be accessed in one location, saving people and the company’s time.

Since 2008, ITS has “taken on a life of its own,” according to Hufnagel.

A social worker by trade, he started the company to meet the overwhelming demand in the province, which was leading to long wait times for employees and employers alike. “It’s really about providing another level of service that is professional, efficient and timely. It’s about meeting the needs of the customer every time, and that’s what we’re all about, it is what we have always been about.”

ITS prides itself on providing a timely services. “Our goal is to not only to provide a timely service but to also ensure they get the best quality service,” he says.

Innovative Training Solutions is a Drug and Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) Accredited Collection Facility, one of only six accredited companies in all of Canada. Accreditation by DATIA is achieved by completing a combination of ongoing education credits, training and annual education requirements and certification. ITS has been recognized by DATIA for Excellence in Collections, first in 2013 and again in 2015.

Education and Accreditation are two of the most important aspects of what ITS does. In an industry where everything has legal implications it’s important that the testing, site personnel and consulting you obtain from your testing company are of the highest quality.

Hufnagel notes the educational component serves multiple purposes. “Our collectors are trained to educate our customers as to what they are doing and why. If people don’t understand the testing process it makes them uncomfortable and or nervous. If our staff are helpful and educate our donors on the collection process, it makes the process easier for everyone involved.”

If a client needs a service which ITS doesn’t already provide, they’ll research and work to improve their available services and establish positive solutions with their client. “We realise that we cannot do everything and do it well. It’s about finding things that you can and want to do and provide the best quality service that you can to your customer,” Hufnagel says.

They haven’t just made a name for themselves at home in Prince Albert. ITS provides testing and consultation services throughout Saskatchewan and various locations throughout Canada. “If you need work done we will get it done,” Hufnagel says. “We have facilitated work as far away as Ireland and regularly test all over Canada by utilising TPA partnerships.”

In 2015 ITS added a mobile testing unit that can go directly to companies worksites in need of training or testing. “Companies no longer need to send a worker away for a day to have a simple drug test, or shut down the entire site for the day due to an incident or injury. We needed to be able to provide that service so we have added it, Hufnagel says.

“We are proud of the work that we do, the people we employ and the relationships we have built along the way”. Hufnagel is incredibly proud of his company and his team. “It’s a testament to the great service we provide here, and how professional we are when doing it.”

In addition to the Prince Albert Office ITS has a full service office in Saskatoon as well as 21 additional collection sites throughout Saskatchewan.
