Project Triple Play receives $93K donation

Jun 24, 2016 | 7:00 PM

An initiative to build two world-standard softball diamonds in Prince Albert has received a huge cash injection.

The Federated Co-op presented a cheque for a total of $93,175 to the Project Triple Play committee today, $40,000 of which came from the local P.A. Co-op.

Dean McKim, general manager of the Prince Albert Co-op, said the company was proud to support the project.

“We feel it is a great fit for what we do as a cooperative to try and enhance our communities, and try to encourage fitness and wellness,” he said.

Roughly half the money flows from the Co-op’s Community Spaces Program.

Project Triple Play was one of 21 community organizations in western Canada to receive funding.

The money will be used to purchase stadium lighting for one of the new diamonds.

Including today’s donation, the committee has raised close to a million dollars towards its $1.5 million goal.

Committee co-chair Ian Litzenberger said they have a number of events coming up that will help push them over the top including a special seat campaign.

He said he is confident the committee will surpass its goal.

“There are contingency plans in place for further improvements so every dollar we receive will go into the park,” he said.

Construction of the new ball diamonds is expected to start Sept 5.
