P.A. brokerage firm owner joins election race

The election race in Ward 7 is once again heating up.

With nearly four months to go until the civic election, Lou Doderai has announced his intentions to run for a council seat.

Doderai, who has been selling real estate in the city for 15 years, said his reason for running is quite simple.

“I’m a P.A. guy and I care about the city and that’s why Im running. It’s purely because I want to help and get this city moving forward,” he said.

Doderai has sat on the provincial real estate board for seven years, and he said he feels that experience will be an asset for him sitting on council, given his job involved lobbying and building relationships with the provincial and federal levels of government.

He said he carries no ill will towards the current council.

“They’ve done a fine job and it’s a tough position. I just think it’s just time for some new blood and I think in the next month or so there is going to be some younger, energetic busy business men that are going to throwing their hats in the ring,” he said.

Doderai and his wife recently purchased the Royal Lepage real estate franchise for this area.  The name of the brokerage firm is now Royal Lepage Icon Realty.

Doderai said he knows if elected he would have less time to focus on his business, but he added his partner Carmen is more than capable of taking a leadership role.

When asked what sort of councillor he would be, Doderai said he would be one that remained on task.

“I don’t have a lot of time to sit around, arguing endlessly about mute points. I want to make sure we make some educated, concise decisions,” he said.

While still early in the election campaign, Doderai said his main campaign issue will be economic development. He also plans to continue the fight for a second bridge.

The only other candidate in this ward so far is Dean Link.

Donny Parenteau announced his intentions to run for this council seat in February, but backed out last month citing family and music career commitments

Election day is Oct. 26.
