P.A. waiting for wedding fever

People in Prince Albert may not have Royal Wedding fever like those in London, but it could start catching in those getting married.

Kate Middleton’s dress is said to be one of the best kept secrets in London. Despite many attempts at finding out, the style and designer of the dress have been kept from the public.

But Middleton when steps out of her carriage and reveal her dress, the style is expected to catch on everywhere, including Prince Albert.

The style will probably be widely available after the wedding, said Jennifer Sproull, co-owner of Unique Weddings by Craft Haven.

“I’m sure after her dress does come out there’ll probably be a lot of designers knocking off what she wore,” Sproull said.

Christa Muohaoo, a sales associate at Treasures in White in Prince Albert, said she hasn’t had much demand for Royal Wedding couture yet, but that could change after Friday.

“I don’t know if a lot of people around town necessarily know what’s going on with it, but I have a feeling … afterwards there will be a bit more of a demand, because everybody will have seen it … if it’s a fitted silhouette I could see it becoming a lot more popular or if it’s a one shoulder I could see it be putting some sort of trend of some sort out there,” said Muohaoo.

Muohaoo said she doesn’t know what it will look like but she thinks it will have a more fitted bodice with a bit of a sleeve “because she has to be a bit covered up,” she said.

Some of the things that have been released about the wedding are the cakes for the bride and groom as well as Middleton’s engagement ring.

But the consensus from those in the wedding industry in Prince Albert is that these things probably won’t catch on after the wedding.

Pat Gladstone, a goldsmith at Bocian Jewellers, has had a few people ask about diamond surround sapphire rings like the one Middleton was given, but she said she doesn’t expect there to be any kind of demand after the wedding.

“It’s kind of been up because of the engagement and everything and I think once after the wedding is over, I don’t think people will keep coming in or asking about it.”

Gladstone said the more popular engagement rings people come in for are diamonds with a white gold band.

One of the other few things the public knows about the wedding is that the couple is breaking from convention and having two wedding cakes — a traditional fruit cake and a chocolate biscuit cake — a childhood favourite of Prince William.

Sara Zacharias with Bakeology, who makes elaborate wedding cakes in Prince Albert, said those flavours are unlikely to catch on.

“Cakes like that, they just aren’t common flavours anymore. Among older generations fruit cake is definitely still a favourite flavour, but most young people think it’s an old person thing so they kind of shy away from it, unfortunately, because they are very good cake,” Zacharias said.

Most of the other details about the wedding will be revealed to the 1,900 guests in person, and the rest of the world over the airwaves Friday morning when the couple ties the gilded knot.
