Corey Matthews, a former Regina teacher accused of numerous instances of sexual assault, has been released on bail once again after being hit with several new charges.

A brief court appearance Monday morning has resulted in Matthews' release. He appeared by video from Regina Correctional Center, wearing a red t-shirt and a full beard. He was silent throughout the proceedings.

The appearance followed his arrest Thursday. He was charged with 11 new sex-related offences, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and anal intercourse. The charges concern five alleged incidents involving a 15-year-old boy in 2006 and 2007. They stem from an investigation that began last year after Matthews was arrested and charged with six other sex offences, also involving teenage boys.

The former inner-city teacher was well known for coaching basketball programs in the North Central area. While he hasn't been in the public school system since January of last year, he had taught at Scott Collegiate and Winston Knoll Collegiate.
