Edam motocross track attracts riders from around the province

Saskatchewan may not feature many mountain trails for motocross riders to explore, but a track in Edam is garnering praise from riders across the province.

Terrell Cole of Edam said he and his friend Jordan Dunlop spent their free time over the past four years constructing the track, which began as a personal project they wanted to do.

“We had a few jumps in the pasture. The first year we built two or three and then the next year we built a few more,” Cole explained. “It started kind of catching on so we finished it up and I would say it’s one of the best tracks in Saskatchewan. We had riders come out and give us input and last year was the first year we opened it up to the public.”

If their first race of the season is any indication, this track will be a big hit. Over 230 people came to the track for the race over the May ;ong weekend with 60 racers. Cole said they have another race planned for June 4.

Cole added the track is a big hit with local kids, including his own, and one of the big motivational reasons to build it was because other tracks around the province are a long drive away. He said the track sees regular use four days a week, and if someone buys a seasonal pass they can come and go as they please.

“I would like to get the word out so more people know about it,” Cole said of his goals for the track. “I have lots of friends from Saskatoon and Regina who come to use the track once a month, but I know there are a lot more guys out there who just don’t know about it.”

The Saskatchewan Motorsport Association features events in locations like Swift Current, Regina and Lloydminster. Cole added this track isn’t just for experienced riders either.

“It’s very kid friendly. Even the big jumps, they’re low consequence so the kids can learn,” Cole explained. “If things go well, we want to build a separate 50 track at the end of this year so if the big guys are out there, the little guys can be out as well. We have a full quarter section of land. A guy approached us about building a dirt oval track, so if there are guys that like to race the flat quarters, we would build it.”

An annual membership for the Edam track is $150 while a family pass can be purchased for $200, which gives memberships to one adult and two children under 16.
