Parenteau backs out of municipal ring

The race for Ward 7 just got a whole lot simpler.

Prince Albert singer-songwriter Donny Parenteau has dropped out of the city’s municipal election leaving the ward wide open for first-time contender, Dean Link.

Parenteau announced today he would no longer be running for council due to family and music career commitments.  

“When I sign my name to a responsibility, I give 100 per cent of my focus to that. Due to the time restrictions I currently have at this time, I would not be able to offer the people of Ward 7 the focus they deserve,” Parenteau said in a press release.

Parenteau originally announced, Feb. 26, he would vie for a council seat in Ward 7. This seat had been vacant since Mark Tweidt left council for personal reasons, Jan. 4.

At the time, Parenteau hoped to encourage volunteerism and recycling in the city. He also wanted to promote the importance of the federal census.

The election is set to take place Oct. 26.
