P.A. food bank wants your boxes of mac and cheese for a domino demo

The Prince Albert Food Bank has been trying to come up with different ways to gain more food donations and decided the Great Mac and Cheese Knock Down event was the way to go.

“Some volunteers let us know that other communities had done this macaroni and cheese dominoes kind of thing… and it looked like a fun thing to do,” Wes Clark, food bank executive director, said. “The (Gateway) Mall got ahold of us and wanted to do something, so it was a really good fit.”

They’ve had a bit of a slow start with donations so far, but Clark hopes to get over a thousand boxes.

“Definitely between two and three (thousand) would be fantastic,” he said.

The plan is to take all the donated boxes and set them up like dominoes around Gateway Mall. During the street fair on June 18, 2016, the person who has made the largest donation will have the honour of starting the knock down.

Donations can be made directly to the food bank, and the Gateway Mall has a donation box set up under the skylight.

Clark said although they’ve had a growing number of food bank users, they’re doing the best they can and it’s all about community support.

“Unfortunately, at this point in time, we’re serving approximately 3,000 people a month and 50 per cent of those are children,” he said.
