PAFD still responding to grass fire calls despite ban in place

Despite the numerous fire bans in place, the Prince Albert Fire Department still dealt with three grass fire calls over the May 7 weekend.

PAFD chief Jason Everett said any grass fire call is concerning, but especially so given the fire bans and the high-profile wildfires in Alberta.

“The ones where people are out conducting activities that they start intentionally, whether it’s a burning barrel or a camp fire…those are the ones we want to target,” he said.

One of the fires PAFD dealt with on the weekend was a car fire which spread to dry grass. Everett said people need to be aware of how parched their surroundings are, in and outside of the city. Even the exhaust from an ATV could potentially start a fire.
