Big changes coming to Nipawin

Apr 30, 2016 | 8:39 AM

There will be lots of activity in Nipawin this summer and fall.

Town Council has rubber stamped several big projects including a new six-lane outdoor swimming pool, and a rejuvenation of the town square.

Mayor David Trann said the rejuvenation will include a new band stand, walking paths, benches, lighting and in the middle, a stamped image of Tobin Lake and the river.

“All of this will be taking place over the summer, with the final touches being put on in October,” he said.

The town’s newly formed business improvement district committee is responsible for pushing the projects forward.

Big projects like this cost money but the town was fortunate to receive grants worth around $115,000.

Construction on the new outdoor pool, which will include water slides and a hot tub, will start in the fall, with completion set for June, 2017.

Town council approved the tenders during a special meeting on Friday.

“There’s a need for every aspect in our community from youth all the way up to seniors, so we are identifying those areas and trying to address it,” Trann said.

Another project on the go is a new skate board park.

A team from Saskatoon will start work next week.
