Shaoulle’s murder conviction appeal dismissed by Supreme Court

The man convicted in the brutal 2011 murder of Margaret Sewap will remain behind bars following a ruling from Canada’s highest court.

The case of John Thomas Shaoulle was heard on Friday, April 29.

The Supreme Court agreed with the original finding of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal which dismissed Shaoulle’s appeal of conviction in Sept. 2015.

With today’s decision, Shaoulle has now exhausted all appeals.

Shaoulle’s lawyer, Brian Pfefferle, said they are disappointed with the Supreme Court’s decision but knew it would be a difficult appeal.

Sewap’s naked body was found April 8, 2011, in Prince Albert, behind the Bolt Supply House on 17 Street East.

Her body had been partially burned after the victim was sexually assaulted and strangled to death. 

Shaoulle received a sentence of life imprisonment with no chance of parole for 25 years.
