Bed shortages continue at Shellbrook Hospital

Feb 8, 2016 | 2:45 PM

Shellbrook Hospital remains five inpatient beds short, after the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) extended its reduction of beds to March. 1.

The bed reductions at the hospital have been ongoing since Dec.15 and are due to a shortage of registered nurses. The hospital currently has four positions available which they are having trouble filling.

PAPHR is currently using contracted nurses to fill the positions available but are still experiencing staff shortages. The region said in a release their recruitment efforts are ongoing but slow.

“While we are hopeful of filling vacant positions, when we do have applicants the hiring process does take time,” Carol Gregoryk, vice-president of integrated health services, said.
