Prince Albert’s Historical Museum is getting ready for a special day in the city’s history.

2016 marks Prince Albert’s 150th birthday and the Historical Museum is hosting special exhibits to celebrate.

The displays will feature articles from different historical periods over the last century and a half, along with showcases about First Nations people, curator for the Prince Albert Historic Society Michelle Taylor said.

“So we’ll say 1866 to 1910 or so, we’ll have an artifact – or two or three – depending on what we have that really speaks to that era, and we’ll do that through the 150 years,” Taylor said.

Some of the artifacts that will be on display include an typewriter made in the early 90s, an original rotary phone booth, an adding machine, photos and artifacts from the early farming days and from Prince Albert’s original breweries, including the last six pack of Bohemian’s produced at Molson’s Brewery in 1986.

“We thought it was really important to say that Prince Albert as a community has been here for 150 years,” Taylor said.

The museum will also have “a really excellent First Nation’s archeological display and photos and artifacts that really speak to a time period.”

The displays won’t be ready till May of this year, but for the month of February the museum will be open every Thursday. During Archives Week, the museum will be open on Feb. 11 and Feb. 13, displaying some documents in the archives collection.
