Saskatchewan residents crank up the heat during the weekend’s cold snap

Jan 18, 2016 | 1:49 PM

This past weekend was the coldest weekend so far in 2016 and many Saskatchewan home owners adjusted accordingly.

According to SaskEnergy, a new daily natural gas consumption in the province was set.

In the 24-hour period on Saturday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, Jan. 17, TransGas, the natural gas transmission subsidiary of SaskEnergy, delivered 1.29 PetaJoules of natural gas to its customers in Saskatchewan. This is a two per cent increase over the previous record set on Jan. 4, 2015.

A PetaJoule is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million GigaJoules of natural gas – the average home in Saskatchewan consumes about 105 GigaJoules of natural gas annually.
