MS focus of upcoming snowmobile ride

Jan 16, 2016 | 7:14 AM

It’s a long way to go on a snowmobile at the best of times.

Next month Wally and Nicole Rolfes of Lloydminster plan to snowmobile 1100 kms from Goodsoil through Meadow Lake and Prince Albert and on to Yorkton to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

Nicole was diagnosed with the neurological disease in 2012. Her husband Wally said they’re seizing the opportunity to help.

“It’s something that people hear about, but they never, ever really know how it affects people, because it affects everybody so differently,” he said, with some people showing no outward symptoms and others requiring a wheelchair.

Rolfes said his wife mainly deals with fatigue, which is something they’ll have to overcome on the ten day ride beginning on February 21st. He said it will be a testament to her resiliency. “She has medication she’ll have to take with us along the trail, but we’ll have a spotter vehicle with us at our stops, so that stuff will all be taken care of.”

They’ll be riding through Prince Albert Feb. 25th.

Donations to support MS can be done through a link on their website, or directly to the MS Lloydminister chapter at (780) 871-0513.
