Optimist Clubs of P.A. help out before the holidays

Nov 30, 2015 | 4:14 PM

It may not be December yet, but some local groups are already in the giving spirit.

On Monday, representatives from both the P.A. Optimist Club and the High Noon Optimist Club were at the Prince Albert Police Station. There, they presented the Victim Services division with a cheque for $800.

Victim Services provides help to people in a time of need, whether that be transportation, or anything to help them during difficulty.

Helen Christensen, coordinator of Victim Services, said the donation was a very gracious gesture going in to the holiday season.

“I think this is a wonderful kindness shown by our community and basically is indicative of our Prince Albert community and how generously people provide support to those in need,” she said. “Our program is based on the kindness of people.

“It helps our program go a very long way.”

Vince Parker from the P.A. Optimist Club said the groups have been donating yearly to the police for the past three winters.

Their main fundraiser for the donation was their Respect for Law pancake breakfast on Oct. 3. Community members were able to enjoy breakfast, by donation. In turn, the amount raised, along with extra from each charity, was donated to the police—who chose the Victim Services division to receive it.

“When we’ve raised funds we’ve got to give it back to someone and of course giving to organizations within our own community is always the best thing to do,” said Parker.
