Woman blown out of Regina house in explosion

Apr 11, 2011 | 4:44 PM

An elderly Regina couple is recovering after surviving an explosion that happened right underneath them.

The Shannon Road property literally exploded early Monday morning. It came just a day after a basement fire on the same street and hours before another basement fire just a few doors down.

It sounded like thunder to some, including Eunice Polasek, who had a fire in her own home a day before the explosion.

Polasek found the woman from the home that exploded early Monday morning. She was ringing her doorbell repeatedly.

“The lady from the house that exploded was there. You could tell she had been singed — her hair and her clothes. (We) brought her into our home,” said Polasek.

The woman was rattled…but was not yet in shock.

“She was lucid. She knew that she had been blown out the back of the house, thrown out with the explosion into the back yard,” said Polasek.

The woman's husband was also able to get out of the house alive.

Just a day earlier, Polasek had been in the couple's house after a fire started in her basement.

SaskEnergy is investigating the cause of the blast. Dozens were evacuated from the neighbourhood as they searched for answers.
