Dionne ready to work with Liberal PM in Conservative riding

Oct 19, 2015 | 11:00 PM

Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne says he is looking forward to working with Canada’s new Prime Minister.

“Of course everyone says he’s young…but young is change and he has lots of good people being elected with him,” said Dionne, who has met the new PM several times throughout the years.

Although the federal government is a Liberal majority, Prince Albert remains a Conservative riding.

Dionne said he will continue to cooperate with Randy Hoback, especially in terms of P3’s, which he said was critical for the funding of P.A.’s second bridge under the Harper government.

“The only way (the funding) could happen under the Tory government was with P3’s, so it’ll be interesting in the month or two months to come to see if the Liberals abandon the P3 model or continue it on,” said Dionne. “That will tell us which direction we move with on our bridge.”

Dionne said having worked with Regina-Wascana’s Liberal MP Ralph Goodale, he believes cooperation with a Liberal government will be doable for Saskatchewan.

“We’ve always had a good friend with Goodale, and he’s always helped us in the past when the Liberals were in power,” said Dionne. “I’m sure he’ll step up and help all of us in the province again.”
