Volunteers were busy collecting and dropping off food donations for the Food Bank this weekend.

Thanks to community efforts it was another successful year for Prince Albert’s Share-A-Meal-Foodbank’s annual Food Bank Food Fight and We Care Food Drive.

The Food Bank Food Fight, which ran all day Friday Oct. 16, brought in 5,490 pounds of food, while the annual food drive on Saturday brought in a total of 10,886 pounds of food and just over $1,200 in financial donations.

Food Bank co-manager, Wes Clark, said although they didn’t get as many donations this year as last year, it was still a great event and they are grateful for the hard work and determination of their volunteers.

“We just really appreciate all of the help we received,” said Clark.

Clark said some of the many volunteers that participated in Saturday’s event included members from various organizations including the staff at SHARE,  the St. Mary Marauders football team, Catholic Family Services, Rendalyn Home, Mobile Crisis, the Bears Hockey Team, Canadian Mental Health and Jessy’s Garden.

According to Clark, the need for food donations at the foodbank continues to grow. During the month of August they handed out over 18,420 pounds of food.
