Shots fired at police on Red Earth First Nation

Oct 19, 2015 | 10:41 AM

The Saskatoon Police Service is investigating a shooting that happened Saturday night on the Red Earth First Nation.

A 24-year-old man fired shots at an RCMP vehicle.

RCMP were initially dispatched to the reserve for a complaint of an assault at a residence.

A man was found outside a residence with a long barreled gun.  He then proceeded to shoot at the arriving police vehicle.

RCMP shot back and the man left the scene on foot.

Approximately an hour later the man was located and arrested without incident.

He had what are believed to be gunshot wounds and was transported to hospital in Saskatoon, where he remains.

It’s not clear if the man was shot by RCMP.

An RCMP media spokesperson told paNOW that’s part of the investigation being handled by Saskatoon Police.

The Saskatoon Police Service will report the results of their investigation to the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General.

In addition to the independent external investigation, the RCMP has requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an Independent Observer.
