PA Fire Department responds to early morning house and car fire

Oct 6, 2015 | 9:39 AM

Prince Albert’s Fire Department responded to two separate fires during the early morning hours Tuesday.

The first incident was a house fire in the 900 block of 13th St. W.

The other fire was in a compound owned by Doctor John’s Towing.

Prince Albert Fire Chief Jason Everitt said both fires are being treated as suspicious.

“The second fire is under investigation by the RCMP so that file is resigning with them. We do have investigators looking at the fire on 13th Street West this morning,” he said.

Everitt said the house is still standing but is a total loss as a result of the fire. He said to his knowledge no one is currently living in the home.

“It is what from I understand currently under renovation but there was no occupants that we were aware of at the time. Especially on arrival there was no occupants,” he said.

Everitt said he is not sure of the extent of the damage to the vehicles at Dr John’s Towing.

John Bodnarchuk, owner of Dr. John’s Towing said he has experienced a lot of theft in the past at the compound where the fire took place.

“People keep cutting the fence and stealing whatever they want, what their heart desires,” he said.

Bodnarchuk said four cars in the compound were burnt to a crisp.

“They were mainly vehicles that were seized and not picked up,” said Bodnarchuk. “One of them for sure, possibly two were to be taken to the auction.”

Prince Albert’s Mayor Greg Dionne witnessed both fires. He said he is thankful for the fire departments hard work since both fires were happening at the same time.

“The structure was well involved so they had to split the crew and respond back to that fire as well,” said Dionne. “And so I give kudos to the fire department because they had a busy night.”
