New Mosaic Stadium 54 per cent complete

The new $278-million Mosaic Stadium is now over the halfway mark of being finished.

The city revealed that approximately 54 per cent of the project is now done. This time next year, the venue will be substantially complete.

“A significant amount of progress has been made. It’s been an excellent spring and summer for construction,” said PCL Construction’s Sean Hamelin.

He explained crews have lost only a handful of days from weather, including not only rain but also smoke from northern wildfires. At times, the air quality was such that strenuous physical activity outdoors was not recommended.

Aside from those lost days, crews have had things work out in their favour.

“The weather’s been good and advantageous,” echoed Mayor Michael Fougere. “We’ve been very, very fortunate and we’re on time and on budget.”

Numbers behind the new stadium

• Over 655,000 hours have been worked on the site by PCL
• Around 430 workers are currently on site
• Installation of the 55 steel trusses for the spectator roof began in the north east corner in August

The city and PCL are teaming up to allow the public a sneak peak of the new facility Saturday afternoon from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. There, the public will get the opportunity to take a photo from the concourse of the stadium. A behind-the-scenes video will also be played in Confederation Park on the grounds of Evraz Place.
