“Most successful year to date” for Field of the Future

Sep 1, 2015 | 11:36 AM

This year’s Field of Future is in the bin, and organizers say it’s their best crop yet.

For the third year, Redhead Equipment, with help from other local businesses, has planted crops with proceeds going towards a well-deserving charity or organization in the area.

Arron McLean, sales manager with Redhead Equipment, said the crew finished harvesting the peas on Thursday which grew along Marquis Drive and 6th Ave. in Prince Albert and along Elevator Road near Highway 2.

“It came off much better than expected,” said McLean. “It turned out very good.

“We’re just waiting to get the final tally … before we make the announcement.”

The seed has already been delivered and sold to the buyer. All they have left to do is calculate expenses, revenue and how much they’ll be able to donate.

This year’s recipient of the proceeds is the Buckland Fire Department, which Mclean said is hosting the Redhead Equipment staff for a special supper as a thank you on Tuesday night.

“Now that it’s done, it’s in the bin and we have a pretty good idea how it’s going to turn out, it’s pretty exciting and it’s a relief at the same time,” said McLean.

McLean said support for the project has been unbelievable. This year, even more people stepped up to donate their time and funds.

“It’s amazing how easy it is … how willing people are to help out when we ask for it. And in lots of cases, we haven’t even had to ask,” said Mclean.

Within two weeks, he said the final number will be announced.

“I can tell you one thing I know for sure. I don’t know the final numbers, but this will be the most successful year to date.”
