Fighting for a spot on the Raiders

Aug 29, 2015 | 12:30 PM

If the Prince Albert Raiders want to add a little more grit to their backend, Tate Page would be a good candidate.

In three Raiders rookie camp scrimmages Friday-Saturday, Page was involved in the lone fight—a decisive victory over Justin Nachbaur.

He later drilled Nachbaur with by far the biggest open ice hit of camp so far. Page is a 1998-born defenceman who played last year in the KIJHL (B.C. Junior B) for the 100 Mile House Wranglers, scoring 10 points in 52 games with 82 penalty minutes.

Team Gold 4 OT Team Green 3

Gino Astrouski continues to make a convincing argument to make the Raiders, or at the very least main camp. He scored the overtime winner 10 seconds into the extra frame to beat Team Green in overtime and sweep the three-game scrimmage series.

Spencer Moe opened the scoring for Team Gold after outskating two defenceman and finding his own rebound.

Josh Maser made it 2-0 after he got by Chase Felgueiras with a head fake and roofed it over Curtis Meger’s glove.

Team Green didn’t go down without a fight though, as Dino Antoniadis and Brian Mentuck both scored to tie the game.

Cody Thompson pinched in from the blueline to give Green the lead.

Garrett Clegg tied the game up in the third period to force overtime, setting up Astrouski’s game winner.

After player meetings, main camp commences at 2 p.m. with registration and fitness testing. Check back here at paNOW.com for roster updates.
