The Prince Albert Co-op is giving back to local charities.

Amidst their 75th Anniversary Year, they hosted a variety of events to celebrate. One of these events was a concert by Gord Bamford On June 10, at the Art Hauser Centre.

Proceeds for the month totalled $75,000.

“As a core value of our association we care for our community and are pleased to provide donations,” the Prince Albert Co-operative Association said in a statement.

KIN Enterprises, Prince Albert Big Brothers & Big Sisters, The Prince Albert Children’s Haven, the Red River Roping & Riding Club and SHARE each received $5,000 for their charities.

To top it off, the Association awarded The Victoria Hospital Foundation with $50,000.

On Thursday morning, each charity was presented with their cheque.

“The foundation and our board of directors is absolutely excited and very, very grateful for this generous gift from The Co-op,” said Sherry Buckler, executive director of The Victoria Hospital Foundation.

Buckler said the money will go to the purchase of specialized labour and delivery beds for the maternity unit.

“The money is going to help our hospital in a very important way,” said Buckler. “The beds that we have now are quite old and are not serviceable anymore.”

“The new beds are much needed.”
