Klughart’s comeback story falls one stroke short of first

Jul 30, 2015 | 7:17 PM

Prince Albert’s Danny Klughart entered the final day of the 104th Golf Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championship in a two-way tie for 10th place.

He finished the tournament in second place after shooting his best two final rounds on Thursday, a 71 in the morning before a 72 in the afternoon. Klughart’s combined score of 173 on Thursday was the best of the tournament.

After sitting at +3 after his front nine in the final round, Klughart turned on the jets to shoot -3 on the back—including an eagle on Hole 15.

He couldn’t catch Charles Boyechko of Winnipeg however, falling one stroke short.

Two rounds were needed on Thursday after the tournament was postponed due to poor weather on Tuesday.

Duck Lake’s Harris Cameron finished in 17th at +20, the only other local golfer to make the final cut. Defending Sask Amateur champion Marty Ring, Brett Henry, Cory Sawchuk and Elwin Cameron were all cut from the final round.

The top three golfers qualify for the Willingdon Cup team to represent Saskatchewan at the Saskatchewan at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship Aug. 10-13 in Toronto, Ont. Team Sask will also bring another six additional spots to fill their quota. Here is the Top 10.
