Semi driver pronounced dead, pinned under cab

Jul 27, 2015 | 2:24 PM

A man found trapped under a semi has been pronounced dead.

RCMP in Waskesiu were called to a spot on Highway 2, five kilometres south of the Waskesiu Lake junction, at 1:30 a.m.

Parkland EMS and the Lakeland Fire Department also responded to the scene.

A man was found dead trapped underneath a semi hauling logs. Investigators on the scene located the man pinned underneath the cab.

After initial investigations, RCMP have concluded the semi was stuck in mud when the situation took a turn.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, requested help from coworkers to get the semi out of the mud. When the second employee arrived on the scene, they continued to try and get the semi unstuck.

At that point, the driver fell under the cab and was pinned under the semi. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The highway was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, the Coroner and Occupational Health and Safety attended the scene along with emergency services and assisted with the investigation.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
