VIDEO/GALLERY: ‘Princess power’ brought to Prince Albert fire evacuees

Jul 9, 2015 | 7:21 AM

Disney princesses were among those to bring a much-needed happy distraction to hundreds of northern fire evacuees in Prince Albert on Wednesday.

To see all the entertainment, check out our full photo gallery here.

The Art Hauser Centre played host to the Cameco & Friends Kids Carnival – a group that’s been flying to communities housing fire evacuees to provide entertainment.

Carnival games, popcorn, bouncy castles, face painting, balloon animals, and visits with Disney princesses were set up on the arena floor.

Many families have been gone from home for up to two weeks due to fire evacuations, but the mood was lighthearted on Wednesday afternoon.

Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty hugged lineups of children who anxiously awaited their turn.

One mother even gave a beaming, excited grin as she took a picture with her daughter and the princesses.

With more than 3,000 fire evacuees from northern Saskatchewan staying in Prince Albert, the chance to keep their kids busy was welcome for many parents.

The carnival was a combination of efforts through Cameco and its northern partners Kitsaki, Points Athabasca, Des Nedhe Development, West Wind Aviation, Athabasca Catering and NRT.

Saskatoon clothes shop and party centre Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo is the source of the princesses. The shop closed down temporarily so its staff could visit the families affected by the devastating fires.

And they are off! We will be closing at 5:00 tomorrow due to sending our staff to the evacuated families around the province! Huge thank you to Cameco for helping us make this possible!
