Day 1 golf wraps for Men’s Mid-Am and Women’s Am

There are three golf tournaments going on locally. At Elk Ridge, the 29th President’s Cup Mid-Am Men’s Championship and the 97th Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship are running from Wednesday to Friday. The Senior Men’s Northern is also going on at Cooke Municipal Golf Course Wednesday and Thursday.

Mid-Am Men’s Championship

Regina’s Ryan McNall and Torrie Coghlin, all the way from Irondale, Ala., share the lead after the opening day of the the Mid-Ams. Both shot an even par 72 to be tied for first place. Regina’s Tyler Zaba is one stroke off the lead at 73. David Stewart, from Saskatoon but originally from Prince Albert, is in a six-way tie for fourth place at 76.

Prince Albert’s Ashley Ziegeman was disqualified after making an error on his scorecard. Ziegeman sent in a 73 on his card, when in fact he actually shot a 74. He owned up to the mistake, saying he was responsible on Twitter.

In the 97th Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship, two Prince Albert golfers sit in the top five. Kayla Sawchuk is in fourth place at +7, while Brooke Hobson is one stroke behind in fifth place at +8.

Saskatoon’s Anna Young is leading the field by eight strokes after shooting a 69 to sit at -4.
