Low oxygen levels killing fish in Regina’s Wascana Creek

Jun 24, 2015 | 7:56 AM

Low water levels in Wascana Creek led to a “large number” of fish dying at Regina’s Albert Street Memorial Bridge on Monday.

In response, the Water Security Agency rescued up to 800 fish, moving them from the creek into Wascana Lake Monday night.

The City of Regina says the low water levels have caused low oxygen levels. Additionally, the last few years have led to higher water levels which have meant there are more fish in the water.

Crews will continue to remove the dead fish. The City warns that if it doesn’t rain soon, oxygen levels will continue to deplete in the evening and more fish could die.
