Local MP prepares for spinal surgery

Jun 12, 2015 | 5:00 PM

A local federal representative will undergo a major spinal surgery.

Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback will undergo a cervical discectomy and fusion, which helps relieve spinal cord and nerve root pressure in the neck.

The surgery involves removing damaged discs. In Hoback’s case the disc is between his C5 and C6 vertebrae, and takes seven hours to be completed.

Hoback first began experiencing numbness in his hands and arms as well as feeling pain in his legs, and medical tests showed that the disc was pressing against his spinal cord.
