Selander and Swenson among 1st round winners at Lobstick

The low qualifier and defending champion were among those to advance to the second round of championship flyte match play at the Men’s Lobstick in Waskesiu.

Cliff Selander who scored the lowest qualifying round defeated Justin Magnuson in Wednesday afternoon’s opening round. Fellow Prince Albert golfer Greg Swenson opened defense of his 2014 title with an opening round win over Ryam Timmerman.

Selander will face a tough test Thursday morning in his second round match against Saskatoon’s Brad Phelps. Phelps beat Randy Emmons. Swenson is up against Jason Galon who upended Humboldt’s Mike Herperger.

Open winner Shaun Dunphy has also advanced to the second round after defeating Jamie Harris on Tuesday, while Senior Lobstick champion Colin Coben scored a win over Anthony Renneberg in round one. Dunphy will take on former winner Andrew Zaba in the next round while Coben squares off with Doug Kozak.

Former match play champion Warren Knam beat Rick Sofiak in their opening round match. However former Lobstick winner and 2014 Saskatchewan Men’s Amatuer champion Martin Ring lost to Tyler Zaba. Meanwhile Prince Albert’s Brett Henry beat former finalist Jock Kriegler to move into the second round which get under way at 7am.
