Campese joins Okanagan Hockey Academy

May 29, 2015 | 10:46 AM

It didn’t take Bruno Campese very long to find a new job.

The outgoing general manager of the Prince Albert Raiders has signed on with the Okanagan Hockey Academy as head coach of their Bantam prep team.

Campese spent eight seasons in the Raider organization as head coach and general manager after three seasons as head coach and director of hockey operations with the Junior-A Penticton Vees of the BCHL. The coaching resume of the 51-year-old includes a two-year stint as an assistant coach with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen and two seasons behind the bench and in the front office of the BCHL’s Trail Smoke Eaters.

OHA group vice president Dixon Ward is excited to add Campese to their staff.

“We have prided ourselves on the quality and expertise of our hockey staff and the addition of Bruno Campese increases that level. Bruno will be able to provide our young athletes with the knowledge and expertise that they will need to move to the next level. ”

Bruno is familiar with the academy as his son Matthew played his midget season there before moving on to the Western Hockey League. Campese is looking forward to his new challenge.

“I am excited about joining Okanagan Hockey and be part of its operation in Penticton,” said Campese. “The Okanagan hockey program and facilities are second to none and I look forward to working with an excellent staff.”

Campese  leaves for his new home in Kelowna Friday afternoon.  His contract with the Raiders is due to expire on Sunday.
