Sudden death near Weyburn uncovers fake Oxycontin

May 28, 2015 | 11:11 AM

Fake Oxycontin pills have turned up in another Saskatchewan city in connection to a death earlier this year.

Weyburn RCMP seized fentanyl pills as part of their investigation into the sudden death of a 45-year-old man.

Mounties began their investigation on Jan. 29. The man was found near Weyburn. A search of a nearby storage facility uncovered 63 pills which appeared to be Oxycontin.

“Upon seizure, they were sent away for analysis which confirmed that they were in fact fentanyl,” RCMP Constable Lyndon Lanoie told Discover Weyburn. It took several months for the RCMP to receive the results of that analysis.
