SGI to offer motorcyclists 3rd injury coverage option

Saskatchewan’s motorcyclists will have more choice for injury coverage next year.

Currently, they can choose no-fault coverage or tort coverage from SGI. The new option is a reduced package of no fault injury benefits, which will cost less. This option will offer the same level of benefits as the tort coverage, but will not allow for lawsuits.

The cost of the insurance for each option also depends on the make and model of the motorcycle as well as its history of claims.

The change is based on feedback from motorcyclists during a review in 2013 as well as SGI’s own assessment of its automobile injury program last year.

Before this third option can be offered to motorcyclists, it must be introduced in the legislature this fall and passed by it during the spring sitting.
