New attractions for annual Downtown Street Fair

May 25, 2015 | 6:14 AM

We are less than a month away from the 12th annual Prince Albert Downtown Street Fair.

On June 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all seven blocks of Central Avenue will be blocked off.

Lori Bourne, event co-ordinator with the Prince Albert Downtown Improvement District, said the fair is a way to promote downtown Prince Albert to the community.

“We make it a nice, big festival. [Residents] can enjoy free music, see some activities and have pony rides, we have some great new stuff this year, I’m really excited,” Bourne said.

She said it’s a very pedestrian friendly festival and that organizing the fair is going fabulously.

Tons of vendors are already in place including five mobile food vendors.

Bourne said this year we will see some new features as well.

“I have a reptile travelling zoo coming … apparently you can have the big giant snake on your shoulder. [For the] first time this year we are going to have some princesses coming down to roam Central Avenue and a superhero.”

Bourne said Spiderman will be at the Street Fair this year and there’s a possibility that Iron Man may make an appearance as well.

Other activities will include the same great pony rides seen in past years and there will be more businesses participating in the sidewalk sales than before.

“I have a lot more vendors coming, like ones who do homemade jewelry, some of the home business ones like Scentsy. I have a lot more and their different than last year … and this will be their first year at Street Fair.”

Ballet n’ All That Jazz will be doing an hour on stage along with a number of wonderful bands.

“We also have something new, Salsa [dancing]. We have a gal who’s going to teach some Salsa to the crowd in front of City Hall as well as hopefully do some salsa dancing for us with a group,” Bourne said.

Local clown Melbatoast will be joining the fair again this year.

The Historical Society will also be out doing historical skits in the foray of City Hall at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

“Morley Harrison has some wonderful skits in mind and he’s busy right now writing out these skits to be done for Street Fair,” Bourne said.

“It’s looking really good, I’m very pleased with how everything is coming together.”
