Feds kick in funds for Rotary Trail extension
The Rotary Trail is moving closer to completion, with $180,000 in construction scheduled for completion this year.
The extension will take the trail from its southwest end point at 32nd Street West up to the Alfred Jenkins Field House and the Victoria Hospital. The federal government is contributing $90,000 in matching funding through its National Trails Infrastructure Program.
The extension will add 1.45 kilometres (km) to a trail that already has 18 km completed. The work to build the trail began more than 12 years ago. It is now about four km away from completion.
Every time there’s an addition to the Rotary Trail, it’s exciting for Dave Fischl, the chair of the Prince Albert Rotary Trail Committee. He was a part of an announcement involving the committee, the City of Prince Albert and the federal government on Tuesday morning, strategically located at the point where the trail currently ends in the West Hill.
