Aurora artist shares inspiration for show and sale

It’s a night of artistry.

The annual Aurora Art Group show and sale is taking place at the Prince Albert Arts Centre on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event will showcase the work of 12 different artists who created pieces on varying mediums including paintings, sketches, ceramics, and photographs.

One of the artists, Cheryl Ring, has been involved for a few years and has created ceramics for the show, as well as some paintings.

 “I have some really unique, I guess you would call them, Mother Nature sun faces, sun moon faces.  So kind of some generic faces relating to nature,” she said.

Ring has created about 25 different pieces for the show and said there isn’t a theme; it’s more about what inspires her in the moment.

However, she said she’s very aware of the female form, which translates into her work.

“I make very round voluptuous vessels.  I love to work with generic female face that depicts, not really an expression, but just the female maybe peeking out behind something.  Something that would pique a woman’s interest … and maybe question something about themselves,” Ring said.

She said this is like a mirror to look at your own soul.

All the artists taking part are very close-knit group, according to Ring.

“When we get together and we are looking at each other’s work and we are actually watching the pieces get created, and then all of the sudden tonight they’re on sale and I myself really feel a tight connection with those pieces that other artists have created,” she said.

That sense of support and cohesion of these artists will be demonstrated at the show.  Ring said throughout the evening each artist will add their personal touch to a canvas brought out for the show.

At the end of the night it’s going to be raffled off.

This is the second collaborative piece the group has done.

Tickets are available for $10 a ticket.  Wine and food will also be available at the show.
