Smashing Bananas and Tigers claim provincial gold

Prince Albert boys’ volleyball teams did very well this past weekend at the Provincial Volleyball championships in Saskatoon and Warman.

The U16 Smashing Bananas went undefeated, topping it off with a 25-12 and 25-18 win over the Saskatoon Huskies VC.

The Smashing Bananas were twice pushed to three sets in playoff matches, first by the Swift Current Junior Sundogs and also by the Regina Volleyball Club.

The Prince Albert NSVC Tigers beat the Saskatoon Huskies VC in the final, to win the U-18 Men’s Championship.

NSVC had an 8-0 lead early in the third set, but the Huskies rallied to tie the match at 12-12.  The Tigers were then able to put the match away.

The U-17 Prince Albert VC Smashing Bananas beat the Saskatoon Junior Dogs to take Bronze.

On the girls side the PA Optimist Toppers En Fuego finished 5th in Tier 1 for Under-17.

The U18 En Fuego squad finished 5th in Tier 3.
