UPDATE: Police investigating ‘suspicious death’ in Crescent Heights

Apr 20, 2015 | 10:11 AM

Police in Prince Albert are now investigating what they’re calling a “suspicious death” after a woman died outside of a home in a Crescent Heights neighbourhood on Sunday night.

At around 9:30 p.m., police received a call about a woman in cardiac arrest and they responded with Parkland Ambulance to the scene in the 15th Avenue and 28th Street East area, according to Cst. Phil Dell. There, they found the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time. An autopsy will take place outside of Prince Albert.

Police sealed off a large area, which remained closed to the public on Monday. The discovery is now under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit.

After 8 a.m., there was a heavy police presence in the area, which is tucked in behind apartment buildings and homes. Multiple police cruisers blocked off some paths, as police investigators seemed focused on an area near a pedestrian bridge.

When paNOW arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m., police were expanding the taped-off area.

According to reports from people who live in the area, the path was blocked off on Sunday night.

At least four numbered ground markers were set out.

A woman who lives in the area, Chelsea Lennox, said a police officer knocked on her door Monday morning.

This is what Lennox said police told her: “We’re asking, like, every person at the door if they know about a person that was murdered actually, just around the corner. And we’re like ‘woah,  well, that’s a little unexpected.’”

“They (police) just said that they found a body last night. Yeah, that’s all they know,” she said.

The police visit and lack of information so far has Lennox concerned to leave her home while she’s watching someone else’s child.

“I would not be walking around there right now,” Lennox said.

The case’s lead investigator, Det. Clint Rudderham, couldn’t confirm what Lennox told paNOW.

No traffic routes were blocked off – only pedestrian routes.

According to Dell, the scene will be contained to allow the investigation to continue.

“As for the people in the area, I would say it’s, aside from that, it’s business as usual.”
