Sask.-born soldier’s remains from Second World War identified

The remains of a soldier from Saskatchewan who died in the Second World War have been identified in the Netherlands.

The Canadian military issued a statement on Saturday saying the soldier is Pte. Albert Laubenstein, and members of his family have been notified.

They say Laubenstein will be buried at Bergen-op-Zoom Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands.

The military says Laubenstein was born in Saskatoon, Sask. on March 28, 1914.

He joined the Canadian Army in 1940 before serving with the 102nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Artillery, the 4th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps and the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.

Laubenstein was killed during the Battle of Kapelsche Veer on January 26, 1945, one of 50 fatalities suffered by the Lincoln and Welland Regiment at the time.
