4 children unhurt, impaired driving charge laid after ugly crash

Apr 19, 2015 | 3:43 PM

Four children were taken into the care of Prince Albert’s mobile crisis team after their mother hit a light stand while driving, police say.

Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) responded to the accident after a vehicle hit median signs in the 3200 block of Second Avenue West just before 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Drivers could see the aftermath of the red Dodge Journeys’ crash as they passed by the accident scene that blocked off two lanes by the centre median.

Concrete that had held up the light stand was strewn on the road, one traffic sign lay flattened, another sign had been flung several lanes away, and the crossover’s front bumper had come off.

Swerve marks on the road indicated the vehicle hit the first sign and swerved before hitting the second. The vehicle had come to a stop about 20 metres further north on Second Avenue West.

A flat front left tire and smashed front end of the vehicle seemed to be the parts of the vehicle that took the impact of the crash. The passenger doors were undented.

Police report the children and their mother were not hurt.

They charged the driver with impaired driving.

Other weekend charges

There was only one other impaired driver charge resulting from a weekend that included 67 arrests.

Police responded to 202 calls for service between Friday and Sunday at noon. The calls largely related t intoxication, damages to property, disturbances, evictions, and people violating court orders.
