VIDEO: St Mary Glee Club tuning up for nationals

Apr 19, 2015 | 8:54 AM

The glee club at St. Mary High School will perform at the Canadian Cantando Music Festival next week in Nelson, B.C.

The three-day event will feature concert bands, and choirs from across the country.

“I’m excited to be able to see all the different groups and be able to showcase what we’ve done,” said Christopher Borsos, a Grade 12 student at St. Mary.

Borsos has been a member of the glee club for the past year.  Up until this year his main role was playing the music. This time around he’s adding his voice.

He said glee club is not like other clubs at school.

“I think everyone’s a lot closer together, everyone gets to spend a lot of time together.  We are together for the whole year, other clubs like sports you’re only together for a couple months.”

This is Caitlin Kerr’s first experience at a national competition.  She has only been a student at St Mary for one year but says she felt accepted right away.

“We’re all kinda friends and have the same group of friends,” she said.

Kerr, who was also a fan of the television show Glee, says what people see on TV is similar to their own, except St Mary Glee’s Club does more community events.

Before the club heads to the B.C., they will perform for the Knights of Columbus.

The Canadian Cantando Music Festival runs April 23 to 25.
