Sport Chek to move to Cornerstone

It’s official: both Staples and Sport Chek plan to split the lot that once housed Sobeys in Prince Albert’s Cornerstone shopping district.

City council approved an application on Monday from Sport Chek to expand the eastern half of the building further eastward and significantly alter the structure.

The planning department received two separate development applications from the two retailers to retrofit the old Sobeys lot to accommodate two separate stores.

Staples plans to occupy the western portion of the building. It submitted a permitted use development permit to the City.

Both stores will be leaving Gateway Mall, and mall manager Sharon Faul told paNOW she has no confirmed dates as to when the retailers are leaving the mall.

She also said the mall has initial offers in place for new tenants, but could not comment further.
