Lights off for Earth Hour on Saturday

Mar 28, 2015 | 5:07 PM

It’s a push for environment awareness and to save energy, and all you have to do is turn off the lights Saturday night for Earth Hour.

The yearly event encourages people to turn off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time. It was started in 2007 in Australia to bring attention to climate change, and has grown to include over 160 countries.

SaskPower encourages residents to turn off their lights during Earth Hour, suggesting some things to do during the hour like have a candlelit dinner, or stargaze. The Crown Corporation will be turning off all non-essential lights at its head office in Regina.

In recent years Saskatchewan hasn’t registered much of a change in power consumption during Earth Hour. SaskPower said it’s because of our cooler temperatures.
